"Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce...The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives"  (Deuteronomy 14:22-23)     

Far from being an outdated Old Testemanet principle, tithing still serves as a standard to teach Christians to trust God entirely with their lives.  When I put God first with my finances I am saying to Him I trust Him enough to provide for all my needs.  Tithing is a demonstration of Lordship.
