"Therefore I command you to be open-handed toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land"  (Deuteronomy 15:7-11)    
 

I really like the phrase in this Scripture that talks about being "open-handed," as it manifests the spirit of generous living.  In my role as a Salvation Army Officer I find God placing people in my path regularly who are in need of help.  When that help is given from an "open-handed" spirit, instead of a sense of duty, the Spirit of Christ is revealed and God's command is truly fulfilled.
